Abandoning LJ

I've been thinking a lot about leaving LJ and have decided that I am.

It started with the ban on pictures of women breastfeeding -- it was deemed obscene by the friendly LJ staff. I can only think that none of them were breastfed as babies and so don't understand the nature of the act.

Then there was the great strikeout of 07.... where a small special interest group decided that they knew what should be on LJ and what shouldn't. Then the great retraction of 07, along with the hopes that by back-peddling and redirection folks would be willing to buy permanent accounts that were going on sale.

And now there is the great art fiasco and banning of fandom artists.

I don't really care what LJ's excuses are, nor why they are choosing to treat a portion of their client base this way. They own JL and they can do whatever the hell they want with it, regardless of how their customers feel.

We've seen much larger corporations do this without talking to their customers and fall when the customers didn't appreciate it. New Coke anyone?

I choose to not spend my money on a company that labels me with terms like pedophile, freak and pervert because I read and write Harry Potter fanfiction. It doesn't matter to them that the fiction I have written is always between two characters of consenting ages....the fact that the books dealt with children makes anything written in the fandom pedophilia in their eyes.

So with this I say so long and thanks for all the fish..... I'm moving over to Insane Journal, where I own the content that I post in my journal and if there is a complaint about it, the TOS says that they will contact me about it.
No arbitrary decisions and ugly namecalling.
No LJ staff posting abusive and negative things about their customers in forums.

Come on over and see me sometime. I have the same name and everything.

I've been somewhat proactive at work and trying to clean up everything before I leave out in oh...say...15 minutes (grin) to start my vacation.

Wh00t! I am so very very excited that I'm having trouble sitting still.

Now if only work would let me go.

Had a terribly productive weekend at least around the house (see previous post).

Sunday we did get the old stairs in the back torn out and the new ones put in (yea team Mitchell!)

BBQ'd hotdogs and brats in celebration and then collasped into a puddle of aching back and shoulder muscles.

Thank the Gods that today is Monday and I can sit at work in front of the computer for the day (GRIN)

Saturday ramblings

The weather here broke somewhat and made it possible to be outside without heatstroke (thank goodness) so I broke out the new hedge trimmer and the cord and went to town on the yard....

Didn't get as much done as I'd like -- the vibration from the motor kills my hands and arms but I did get the hedge in front of the house hacked down to a reasonable size and you can actually walk to the front door now.

Then I went on to attack the azalea and rosehip monster that has taken over the front of the porch. It's about half down now. If the weather keeps up *and it's supposed to* then I'll work on it a bit at a time. The bigger hassle will be getting a chipper shredder to deal with the detritus.

To recover from the trimmer I came in to have some tea and watch the episodes of Dr. Who that we had on the DVR that I'd not gotten to watch yet. Loves....oh loves....

The spouse and I then headed out to Lowes to ger risers and new steps for the back porch, which had become a health hazard, and since everyone comes to the back door....they needed to be replaced.

We ended up having to buy a circular saw as well (yeah! Power tools! uruuruuruurrrrr)

Tomorrow's plan is to tear out the old stairs, cut the new steps and attach them all to the porch. Eventually we'll have to replace the porch as well, but it's in reasonable shape so it's ignorable for now.

Best thing seen today? The truck with the following window sticker:

Lets recap the last three+ weeks shall we?

My baby turned 19. You many not have heard me but MY BABY TURNED 19!!!!!!!!

It was a pleasant birthday (huzzah) – we had an assortment of 16-24 year old ladies in our house for the weekend to celebrate the natal holiday. Kareokee (yeah, I know its not spelled right), DDR, movies and music….

And the stress of my baby turning 19 which meant that she was losing her health insurance unless she was back in school (those of you familiar with the Youngest Spawn, you know what an issue this can be with everything else happening with her)…so she was stressing out over that, and the financial issues that would bring up (somewhere in the neighborhood of $5000 a month in med costs out of pocket if there is no insurance) and with the stressing the bi-polar kicked into play.

And then there was work…..

Which was trying to close out the fiscal year (yeah, we all know what a pain in the ass that is) and everyone in the division trying to get one last product out the door to generate revenue for the fiscal year. Dorks. All of them. Some of these projects had been in the planning stages since December of last year and they didn’t think to let me know until now. 500 SKUs was what they needed in the space of 2 weeks. Needless to say that didn’t happen. They got 250 in the two weeks and the other in the next week. Dipwads, all of them.

Then there was the SEV 1 issue which required that I spend two weeks doing nothing but scrubbing BOMs for the affected parts to have them removed.

And the Elder Spawn wasn’t without her angst in all of this….her check engine light had come on and she needed to have the engine checked out. We ransomed her car to the tune of $1005.00 on Thursday, and she needs brakes front and back as well (another 800 at least).

Middle Spawn finished up school for the semester, but is choosing not to go to the summer session because she’s going to California with me in July. She is still working and still out in her apartment with Gamer/Anime Geek girl.

Today I am spending a quiet day sitting at <lj user="freyrboy">’s house while the group is gaming. I’m spending the time catching up on reading my flist and rereading ‘A Confederation of Valor’ by the wondrous <lj user="andpuff"> while I wait to be able to purchase the 3^rd in the series that is now out in hardback.

I had forgotten just how much I adore this series and how it makes me grin and laugh outloud.

To all my flist that have had birthdays since I was last on….I hope that it was enjoyable for you.

For those of you dealing with personal crisis’ – you are in my thoughts and prayers.

For those of you that may read PurpleFox (Jo B) who writes Mulder/Skinner slash, she had her mom pass away rather quickly (in the space of days) after getting a diagnosis of breast cancer (that was spread many places apparently).

Enough of the whining from me....its getting time for dinner here, so I’m outta here!

The Resident (Occupant) has moved out. She came out from the bedroom Saturday morning and said that her friend was coming by to pick her and her stuff up. He shows up and then for the next 2 hours here is silence from the bedroom, then he starts coming out with bags of stuff.

After about 5 trips out to the car she comes out and tells us all goodbye.

I hope she does well at her new place, I hope that they are ready to be taken advantage of. She won't be back except maybe a visit if I have anything to say about it.

Spent the afternoon with the Youngest Spawn. She and I headed into Fall City for a friends birthday tea, then headed off to Target to meet up with Eldest Spawn for shopping goodness.

Unfortunatly Youngest Spawn is on her second go around with Bactrin in the hopes of killing off her sinus infection from Hell, and while we were wandering around Target she began to get feverish, dizzy and loopy. We went to the little cafe area, I got her a soda and we waited for Eldest Spawn. Once she got there we headed home.

Been watching Space Above and Beyond. I really liked it the first time around and was sorry it never lasted more than the one season. Found all of it on DVD at one of the local stores and picked it up. We've been rewatching (and first time viewing for some of us)the entire series. It has held up well I think. I know that the Youngest Spawn is enthralled with it and the characters. I may actually eventually get her to watch Due South with me.

Sunday was a lazy day around the house -- I did laundry and tried to nap. That was the extent of it for me.

I took the afternoon off yesterday so that I could get a massage. I normally get one every couple of weeks to keep my hands and arms painfree enough to continue working, but I had the chance yesterday to have a longer one.

It hurt so very very good -- my massage therapist is not a gentle soothing massuer, but rather someone who does myofacial tissue release....

Went home and went to bed, slept for 11 hours.

I must have really needed it.

You all are prolific :D

Its been interesting around the house.... we are waiting to see if the resident moves out at the end of the month as requested (see herbmcsidhe for details -- word of warning, he flocks, so if you aren't on the list you won't see it)

The resident.....we took her in after he dad kicked her out around Thankgiving. She'd been staying with another friend, but needed to move out due to some other issues. We offered up our couch (floor of the Youngest Spawn's room actually).

Why she must move out...

She leaves food hidden in the room, half empty soda cans, spends money like woah, and often expects someone to drop whatever they may be doing to run her places, without asking beforehand. We're just all sick and tired of it, and while I hate to evict her, talking doesn't seem to be working.

Her dad is an ass.... so she really cannot go back there. She plans on moving in with another friend, but they are waiting on someone else to move out.

She's not a bad kid, just self centered.

Feh! Enough about her. Went out Easter to Buca de Beppo's for dinner with 13 other folks. One of our friends had won an auction for dinner for up to 16 at the Pope's table. All we had to actully pay for was drinks and gratuity. Everything else was covered in the bid. We all had a hoot!

Gonna head out and run for some coffee......

I'm sitting here re-watching Firefly with my youngest (Trash is the episode thats on) and reaffirming my love of the series.

Thank all the Gods above that February is FINALLY over. For the shortest month of the year it was doing it's darndest to seem like it was the longest.

Let's see.... had a foot of snow the last day of the month, luckily it was followed by 5 days of fairly warm rain so most of it is gone from the yard already.

Middle Spawn moved out, _midknight_ was here for the month, I think I have a freakin' sinus infection (heading in to the doctor's today about it) and work is kicking my ass.

February kicked the ass of most of my LJ friends (hugs to all of you), especially crowgirl13 and spoiledbrat_kid.

Not much to say here....hope March is treating you all better!

I love all of you.... but really... I know it's been a few days, but I did not expect a skip 400 this morning!

or at least it seems that way to me today.

Work is finally looking like something do-able rather than the 12 Tasks of Herakles that its been looking like.

The weather is cold and beautiful.... a bit foggy in the mornings and evenings, with crisp clear sunny days and frosty mornings (in the 20's most mornings this week).

I've not seen or spoken much to anyone this past week or so...I've been trying to fight off a cold that wants to take over my head (itchy achy ears and ticklish throat with sinus pressure) and have been coming home and pretty much going to bed.

Tomorrow....tomorrow.....my gas line gets run on tomorrow.... and I'll be able to cook on the new stove after that!

and for spoiledbrat_kid ....you are in sooooo much trouble.... I now have the Oscar Meyer song stuck in my brain..... *hugs*

Weirdly amused

For the past 2-3 months my area has been hammered by Mother Nature....first there was the flood that blocked all access in and out of town (dude....seriously....all roads in and out were under water), then a snowstorm with freezing temps that paralyzed the area for a day or two, then there was the wind storm + near freezing temps so we were without power and water for a week, then the day after Christmas there was (more) snow. Not too much, but enough for folks to be happy. Then this past week we got nearly a foot of snow in places around the Sound (I think we had 10-12 inches in our yard), then freezing temps, some minor rain, just enough to turn everything into a skating rink then more snow (just a couple of inches).

Left the office early yesterday, just in case it decided to continue with the trend but was happily surprised this morning to wake to the sounds of dripping as snow began to melt all around us.

However, it now looks like everyone else not in the Pacific Northwest is being hammered.

Man -- all of you now going through this....you have my empathy!
